Gibb’s Farm
Gibb's Farm is an oasis of green, calm and beauty, in a landscape that can often be parched, dry and dusty.

Gibbs Farm - Karatu

The panorama of the Ngorongoro Highlands in Northern Tanzania, above the Great Rift Valley, includes the famous caldera of the Ngorongoro Crater, and a range of extinct volcanoes with the evocative Maasai names of Oldeani, Olmoti, Loolmalasin, and Empakaai.

North is the still active volcano of Oldoinyo Lengai, Mountain of the Gods, while beyond are the endless Serengeti Plains, Lands of Infinite Space.

gibbs lodge
The Lodge- offers 20 twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms set among the gardens.
The main facilities, consisting of a sitting room, reading room, dining room (which serves fresh, home-cooked meals), bar and gift shop, are situated in the old farmhouse.

Coffee is grown, processed and roasted on our farm, and a vast ten-acre fruit and organic vegetable garden provides nearly all the fruit and vegetables to the guests, who wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views.

The Rooms- The Lodge offers 20 twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms, set among the gardens.

In the last few years we have built new rooms. Two are linked making them ideal for families. All our rooms retain the charm of their unique garden setting.

The Farmhouse
The main facilities, consisting of a sitting room, reading room, dining room, bar and gift shop, are situated in the old farmhouse.

In cooler evenings, relax by the fireside, but most of the time you will want to be outside, enjoying the gardens, the view or the night sky. When you are ready, come in for dinner.

The Farm- In our exotic location on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, we command huge views of the surrounding farmlands.

Whilst at our back, the forested slopes are home to an abundance of wildlife, including elephant and leopard.

The old-colonial farmhouse, built by German settlers in the early 20th century, still has the character of a well-looked-after-private house with roaring fires and friendly service.

Waterfall Walk
The lodge guests can walk to the top of a nearby waterfall and see caves made by elephants.

This guided walk takes about 2 or 2.5 hours and winds its way in and out of the forest highlands with breathtaking vistas; you will often see wildlife and always a multitude of birds

Gibbs Farm provides a welcome stop on any safari, and a base from which to enjoy the many activities available in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Crater.

Even if your stay is short, find time for a gentle walk or tour of our gardens.
If we had to sum up the difference between ourselves and other accommodation in the area, it would be that Gibb's is a way of life and not just a business. Karibuni!

International flights arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, which is a short 45 minute drive from the town of Arusha.

From here you can transfer to the Farm with a scenic drive, or fly to Lake Manyara, where we will meet you with our private vehicles.
