Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing - Machame Route - 8 Days - SASC02

The walk to the summit takes you through a number of distinctly different climatic and vegetation zones - from beautiful rainforest, to alpine moorland, to volcanic desert, to glaciers, ice and snow. (Indeed, even if you do not make it to the top, the scenic interest and rewards of the lower sections are considerable). No mountaineering experience is required; you are able to walk all the way

Day 1 - The Machame route is on the Western side of the mountain, the scenic side. It is the most popular route on the mountain as it gives you more time to acclimatize. You stay in tents. Airport transfer / Overnight Springlands Hotel

Day 2 - Transfer to Machame Gate / Hike through the rainforest to Machame Camp Altitude: 1490m - 2980m Altitude climbed: 1490m Estimated Hiking time: 7-hours

Day 3 - Hike from Machame Camp through moorlands to Shira Camp at the Shira Plato Altitude: 2980m - 3840m Altitude climbed: 860m Estimated Hiking time: 6-hours

Day 4 - Hike from Shira camp to Lava Tower before start descending to Barranco Camp Altitude: 3840m - 4630m (ascend) 4630m - 3950m (descend) Altitude climbed: 790m (ascend) 680m (descend) Estimated Hiking time: 7-hours

Day 5 - Hike from Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp Altitude: 3950m - 4550m Altitude climbed: 600m Estimated Hiking time: 8-hours

Day 6 - Hike from Barafu camp to Uhuru Peak (the summit) / Descend to the Mweka Camp Altitude: 4550m - 5895m (ascend) 5895m - 3100m (descend) Altitude climbed: 1345m (ascend) 2795m (descend) Estimated Hiking time: 7-hours (to summit) 7-hours (descend)

Day 7 - Descend from Mweka Camp to the Mweka Gate / Overnight Springlands Hotel Altitude: 3100m - 1980m Altitude climbed: 1120m (descend) Estimated Hiking time: 4-hours
